You don’t have to use every product from the same line to get a flawless finish. Due to varying skin types and concerns, it is more advantageous to use products from brands that are better known for products targeting your skin type and concerns. For example, a client with oily, acneic skin and hyperpigmentation will want to use a foundation from gloMinerals, which offers full coverage and is non-comedogenic, but choose the Ever Matte Poreless Perfecting Primer from Becca, which offers up to 12 hours of oil absorption. Choosing products that suit your skin type and concerns regardless of brand will give you a better look and finish than choosing to go with one brand for everything.
Our model has an olive complexion and is slightly oily. Problem areas include slightly red cheeks and a few small blemishes.
Prior to makeup application, a serum (optional), moisturizer, hydrating toner (optional), and sun protectant should be applied. A hydrated face allows makeup to adhere smoothly and reduces any dry patches, which can create texture on the face during makeup application. A serum and toner are optional, although highly recommended for drier skin types.
As it is summer time, only a light layer of hydration is needed. The hyaluronic in Eminence’s Strawberry Rhubarb Serum hydrates and plumps all skin types, and is especially great for dry skin types.
During the day time, a sun protectant should always be applied. While some makeup and skin care products do contain SPF, you would need to apply several layers of product to receive sufficient protection, which may leave skin looking cakey. It is always best to apply a separate sun protectant, even if the makeup or skin care product contains SPF. Check out our previous blog on summer skin care here.
We use bareMinerals Prep Step Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Mineral Shield, a physical sun protectant. Physical sun protectants typically contain a combination of zinc and titanium dioxide and are great for all skin types, especially sensitive.
With the skin moisturized and protected, we’re now ready to start!
For a flawless finish and look that lasts, a primer should always be applied. Primers fill in pores, allowing makeup to glide on easily and makes your look last longer by absorbing oil and preventing oxidation. Primers can also provide other benefits, such as mattifying oily skin or illuminating dull skin.
We use Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter – this is a luminizing primer that creates a smooth canvas for makeup. Crushed pearls in the primer give the skin a luminescent, lit from within glow.
On the eyelids, we use bareMineral’s Prime Time Eyelid Primer so colors stay vibrant throughout the day or night. Those with oily eyelids can really benefit from an eyelid primer.
A color correcting palette in addition to concealer and foundation can cover up even the most severe redness and pigmentation. Green covers up areas of redness; Yellow covers up purple or dark areas (e.g. bruises or birthmarks), and can also be used as a brightener; purple helps create a glow for yellow, dull toned areas of the skin; Neutral covers up minor imperfections on light to medium skin tones.
gloMinerals’s Corrective Camouflage Kit contains green, yellow, purple, and neutral. We use green to cover some slight redness on our model’s cheeks.
Becca’s Under Eye Brightening Corrector is our favorite for undereye dark circles. This cream formula glides on easily, prepping skin for concealer, while brightening and evening out skin tone.
gloMinerals foundations are our best sellers. Available in pressed, liquid, and loose forms; gloMinerals foundation is great for all skin types, is highly pigmented, and does not clog pores. Our acneic clients love gloMinerals due to the high coverage and breathability, while our older clients love it because it offers a natural finish and does not settle in fine lines.
Our model wears gloMinerals Satin II Foundation in Golden Dark.
We use the same concealer in Warm Honey as contour.
To set the base and concealer, we use gloMinerals Perfecting Powder. This clay based powder helps keeps shine at bay, and contains vitamins A, C, E, and green tea.
Did you know using a darker shade of foundation works just as well as a product labeled “bronzer”? We use barePro Performance Wear Foundation in Toffee as bronzer.
We use a combination of two blushes – gloMinerals’ Blush in Innocent and Hibiscus for a natural, rosy look.
We clean up and frame the brows using gloMinerals brow stencils from the Brow Collection and bareMinerals Frame & Define Brow Styler in Universal Dark. To fill in the brows and soften the frame, we use gloMinerals Brow Quad in Brown.
Our model has hooded eyes, which can make eyeshadows hard to see when applied. To combat this, we extend the eyecolor a bit outside of the lids. We use gloMinerals eyeshadow in Coy as a base, on the lash line, and underneath the eyes. Vintage as a transition color and on the outside corners, and Banana as highlight on the brow bone.
We use a darker shade, bareMinerals Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eyeliner in Forever Brandy on the upper lash line to line the lashes. We then use a lighter shade, Eternal Bronze, on the lower lash line to complete this daytime eye look.
To finish off the look, we apply a coat of bareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara.
To set face and eyes, we use gloMinerals Moist Hydration Mist. Setting spray allows makeup to adhere better to the skin and gets rid of any powdery areas, so makeup looks natural and flawless.
If lips are dry, we recommend applying a lip balm beforehand so product applies smoothly and dry flakes are reduced. Eminence’s Citrus Lip Balm or Rosehip & Lemongrass Lip Balm with SPF 15 during the daytime.
To define lips and prevent feathering use a lipliner. We use bareMinerals Gen Nude Under Over Lipliner in Vibe.
Matte lips and liquid lip colors are currently hot trends. bareMinerals combines the best of both worlds with their Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolors. We use the shade XYZ here.
For a dose of hydration and plumping of the lips, we apply bareMinerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Gloss in Sugar on top of the lipcolor.
